And this is Derek Soto here, I'd like to talk to you a little bit about my thoughts on my business journey thus far. One of the things that I keep seeing, and I think is hugely important for anyone that may be listening is Oh, I see most people are want to printers. And I define entrepreneurs as people that want to be entrepreneurs, but they haven't really done anything yet.
There are a few things that get in the way of stopping action. And one of those things is, what do I do exactly. And you're not used to it. So it's not your fault that it's such a different way of life in a way of living, that it is hard to kind of quantify. You know, it's hard and hard to picture structuring your life in a way where you're doing entrepreneurial stuff, because it's not what we've grown up to learn.
So it's very alien and foreign, and we ended up getting frozen. And we're stuck in a sea of ideas, but never actually get anything done. And we get discouraged. Because when we talk to people to work with us, they're not drawn to ideas.
People are drawn to something that's already built, they're drawn to an audience, they're drawn to a platform, you have to forge a little path by creating a channel for yourself, and putting yourself out there naked, not literally, but just being who you are, as I'm doing right here.
And one of the takeaways in the point that made me want to hit record today was that if you want other people to be attracted, and interested and listen to you with sincerity and actually take you serious, when you approach them with, Hey, I've got an idea about this thing. Most people are going to be like, Ah, well, I can't because or, you know, and it's so hard to hear and disheartening.
It can really serve to kill your dream. And so if you every day, just kind of put yourself out there and just talk about document don't teach, like just Gary Vaynerchuk says, just document what you're doing and what you're learning.
So people can learn and grow with you. And so I think a good takeaway, something that I've learned is that you need to kind of build something up and say, when you approach people with your idea, you're like, Hey, I've got 5000 subscribers that are 5000 people that listen to me, that is something where people will start to pay attention and start to be like, Oh, okay, you're actually doing stuff.
And people are very inspired by someone that already has done something. You know, they've kind of forged the path they've done the they've made that idea into an actual tangible thing, something that a person can see value in. And so if you want to interview people, or if you contact people, and you want them to interview you for more exposure, they're going to take you much more seriously.
If you lead with I have an existing, I've already taken the time and built an audience myself. And people respect that people are drawn to that. It just takes finding your voice and finding what you're doing.
But today, I would say that the first step to making your dream real is picking a channel that you're comfortable with, whether it's podcasts or video articles, and just doing it every day, make that commitment to yourself. And don't expect anything from it, just do it.
And over time, people will find it and don't worry about how good it is or the quality or perfection because that will stall you the key word in entrepreneurship is just Do do do. Just work hard. Even if you're doing the wrong thing. It is better to work hard at the wrong thing than doing nothing.
Because you will learn from doing that wrong thing. And you'll course correct that would be my three cents is start to forge your path. Start to build something yourself by just consistently posting on whatever platform you're comfortable with. And at the end of the day people will start to notice and as you grow bigger players will start to take you more seriously and then you'll be able to do more with it.
When you have conversation. People will take your calls a guy named Russell Brunson talks about your dream 100 I learned from reading his book And I give him credit for that give credit where credit is due. And I just thought it was very genius to see that of making your dream 100 writing down 100 people that you want to, that you'd love to work with, that you feel could further your message.
And that you could also help them too. So it has to be a symbiotic relationship, it has to be beneficial for both parties, but no one on your 100 is going to listen to you if you haven't done anything. So avoid being the person with just ideas and say, Hey, I'm a person that I have worked with blood, sweat, and tears, because that's what real entrepreneurs that are successful have.
That's what they respect, I have a modest list in a niche that I won't name here. But if someone approached me concerning that topic, and they just had ideas, I would probably say no to them as far as promoting their stuff. But if they called me and said, Hey, I have a list that's about, even if it was half the size of my list of subscribers, I'd probably take that call.
I'd be like, okay, you've done something that would earn my respect. And so I would take that call, and potentially, on a limited basis, maybe even promote their thing, if it's good, or at least be like you know what I respect what you're doing, you're not at the level yet where I'm going to promote you or interview you.
But if you keep going keep doing what you're doing once you hit 2000 subscribers, give me a call back. And we'll go ahead and do something. And so it's so important to just every day build on what you're doing. forging your path and building your own thing, building your email list, not just doing a podcast and letting it go.
But directing them to a website you own where you can collect their email address so that you can own that traffic. And again, give props to Russell Brunson for that little nugget. So at the end of the day, I am actually practicing the things that I'm learning from that and from other people along the way, during this journey of nearly two decades of doing marketing things.
So I hope this helps. I'll stop it here. And just think about it. Just don't even do anything today. Just kind of think about that, you know, let it resonate with you. Because it's so easy to either fail. And all you have to do is do nothing and just have ideas and wait for something magically to happen.
But that's harder, because that's psychologically harder, because you know, your dream is dying every day. Whereas when you get up and do what I'm doing right now, and you just post you, it's nobody's listening, and you're doing that action every day, at least you're trying when you keep trying something and you're consistent.
It always pays off. It always pays off in one way or another. Even if your endeavor fails, you learn valuable lessons that you can take with your next endeavor. So I hope that this helps and I really appreciate your time. All right. God bless you.
